Professor and Students of the 2010 RISD* Japan Project Arrive at the Studio
* RISD : Rhode Island School of Design
Rhode Island School of Design (RISD, pronounced “rizdee”) is located in Providence, Rhode Island, and stands as one of the USA’s top art universities. It is well known around the world and among American art universities has a history exceeded in length only by Cooper Union (est. 1859) and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (est. 1866).
Training period: Jan. 18 through Feb. 12, 2010
Number of participants: 17
Main training program: Ceramics workshop at Kurumaki Studio (about three weeks)
Holding an exhibition at the Studio featuring the ceramics made
Etching workshop at the etching room of the Studio
Paper making workshop in Yoshino
Ink making workshop in Nara city
Major activities: Party held by president Okamura
Historical visits in Osaka, Kyoto, etc. on an individual basis
Other info: Nara TV came on assignment on Feb. 9 and the story was broadcast on the program “Yudoki!” at 5:45 p.m. on Feb. 9.
